UPDATE: May 12, 2010 I WAS MONITORING MY PHONE CALLS, TRYING TO AVOID BILL COLLECTORS, WHEN A CALL CAME IN AND I RECOGNIZED THE 407 AREA CODE. I KNEW IN MY GUT THAT IT WAS REGGIE FROM FCC, BUT I ANSWERED THE PHONE AND PLAYED IT COOL. REGGIE SAID HE HAD A 2001 FORD TAURUS FOR ME -- IF I WAS INTERESTED... INTERESTED??? WOULD ANYONE ACTUALLY SAY NO? I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAR, JUST THAT IT HAS 4 WHEELS, A ROOF, AND IT MOVES. THAT'S ALL I ASKED HIM ABOUT IT. I'LL POST PICS AS SOON AS I GET IT. I HAVE ALL MY PAPERWORK COMPLETED AND AM WORKING ON GETTING THE TITLE, REGISTRATION, AND INSURANCE TAKEN CARE OF. I'VE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR NOW FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT I'VE ONLY BEEN ON THIS SITE FOR 7 MONTHS. I'M MOVING INTO A NEW HOME ON JULY 1ST. THINGS ARE FINALLY STARTING TO COME TOGETHER, AND THIS WAS A HUGE, HUGE, HUGE PIECE OF THE PUZZLE!!!!! I HAVE LEARNED SOMETHING ABOUT THIS WEBSITE THAT I DIDN'T REALIZE. WHEN YOU ARE AWARDED A CAR, THEY TAKE ALL YOUR VOTES! I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO TRANSFERRING ALL OF THEM TO MY LOYAL FRIENDS AND HELPING MAKE THEIR DREAMS A REALITY. I GUESS I'M GONNA JUST HAVE TO STAY ON THE SITE AND KEEP VOTING FOR THEM EVERYDAY ;) ...................... In July 2009, 2 teenage boys started my car on fire, because a few nights earlier I had chased them out of the abandoned trailer next door. It wasn't a fancy car, just a 20 year old Chevy Cavalier, but it ran great and got me where I needed to go. The police believe that I was targeted for this attack, and that it wasn't just a random teenage act of vandalism. The arsonists were actually trying to burn down my trailer -- with me and my brother in it -- based on the evidence left behind. My older brother Paul had lived with me for 16 years. He is crippled with Muscular Dystrophy (as were my 2 other brothers Bobby and Mike) and requires an electric wheel chair to get around. Ever since the car fire, he hasn't slept well, waking any time he heard a noise outside. He was afraid to stay here anymore, thinking the teenagers would come back to complete their mission. We lost our oldest brother, Bobby, in a house fire on Christmas eve a few years ago. Due to his Muscular Dystrophy, Bobby wasn't able to get out of his bed, and died while pleading for help to the 911 Operator. I've always tried to be there for Paul, and give him the support someone in his condition needs. Since I couldn't earn a living without a car, I was falling behind on all the bills and Paul figured it was inevitable that we would be evicted so he moved out. As many of you know by now, we lost our youngest brother, Mike, on January 27th. He died peacefully in his sleep as a result of his muscular dystrophy. He had been in a nursing home for the last 15 years. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to Tennessee from Florida to attend the funeral. That's just one more thing I couldn't do for lack of transportation! I'm a volunteer Coordinator for a Healthy Lifestyle and Fitness Program sponsored by Summit Education. I went through the program and have lost 40lbs so far, and it is my honor to support others who are willing to take on the challenge of losing weight and improving their health. Unfortunately, as a result of having no car, I can no longer coordinate the program and help these people, and the program is currently in limbo! As a self-employed business owner, I need a car to earn a living, and I haven't been able to replace the Chevy after it was fire-bombed. Even though my business was struggling with the bad economic times, I was getting by until my car was destroyed. I'm a hard worker and believe in giving 100% commitment and effort. Having a car again will enable me to do my job and dig myself out of this hole, and hopefully bring my brother back home again. I am also looking forward to getting our Transitions Healthy Lifestyle program back up and running. UPDATE: I just moved into a temporary new home, and have an agreement with a friend to share a 2/2 condo starting in July! Despite not having my own car, I'm starting to get some business and make some money. Baby steps...
