Update/ 04/09/10- I want to thank all of you who have been voting fr me for your support! Unfortunately due to lack of employment and a vehicle, my children and I are being forced to return to a shelter! My unemployment runs out in 2 weeks and even though I have paid my rent for April I will nit have rent for May! I do wish all of you the best of luck and I will try to get to the library everyday to keep casting votes! God Bless all of you! I am the mother of 5 kids, and singly take care of 2. I am unemployed at the moment, and part of the reason is that I have no transportation. I was homeless for almost four years, and 2 of those years were spent in a shelter. I had a good job and a car, but the man who is the father of my youngest two children, financially drained me and caused the demise of my car. I had it for only 7 months and the head gasket blew. I lost my job and my daycare, and my life. His drug issues had gotten him kicked out of the shelter we were in, leaving me to care fr my two youngest children on my own. Late Dec. of 2008, I started to work for the shelter I lived in, but was only making $7.15 an hour, and only working on call maybe 1 night a week. I was not making ner enough to have a car payment baecause even though I wa also getting unemplyment, I was getting less then I was paying. My boyfriend literraly refused to keep a job and had an addiction to pain killers. He went to rehab, and then to a halfway house, but while at the halfway house he developed an addicton to cold pills. We moved into an apartment, fnally after 4 years, with te amazing help of Section 8, but his cold pill addiction had goten him arrested, and led to other things. He is now in jail and facing felony charges, and was supposed to get his Social Security Disability, starting the 15th of March. I gave him a choice, the plls, or his family, and he left to go steal some more cold pills, so he had chosen the wrong path. I decided that enough was enough, and that the only way he was going to start thinking of his life and the safety of our children and our family, was to get help. Jail is the route he chose. Now I am on my own again, and just barely making ends meet. I get foodsatamps, and WIC which really helps, but I pay child support for my 3 oldest children, and my unemployment compensation is coming to end. I have been looking fr a job all over the town I live in, but without transportation I can't go where the jobs are. This organization is my last chance to get on my feet again.
