Thank you, thank you, thank you to my wonderful new friends out there! I'm Ashley's Mom, and we applied for a FREE Charity Car the first week of July, shortly after the "soft launch" of this site. I could never have known that I was joining a community of the most wonderful and caring people there are! My journey with FREE Charity Cars has been such a humbling and awesome experience! On October 20, we got "The Call". FCC had a van for us! Words can not express the way that I felt on that day, as my son, Ashley (the reason for our request here) was going to have brain surgery the following day... I felt I had a tornado spinning around my head, and my heart filled with joy and gratitude to those who have made this possible! The reason I joined, and the reason for my request, is my 9 year old son, Ashley Ivan. He's severely disabled, and requires a wheelchair for transportation. When he was years old, we purchased a minivan to take him to doctor appointments and to and from school... We were still driving that van until this year. It had become an ordeal to take him anywhere. He and his equipment had grown so much that he was no longer safe or comfortable during transport. He often hurt his hands, fingers and toes due to the cramped conditions. I couldn't stand to see him suffer any longer... We needed a bigger, handicap equipped van, so that he could be safe and comfortable, and so that our family could experience the world together, instead of necessary appointments... I'm so thankful that Brian and FREE Charity Cars gave me the opportunity to share our story, and to apply to receive the gift of a vehicle that would accomodate our family's needs, and change our lives!
